Calidris Investment Partners is a recently launched investment firm based in Bermuda and focused on executing strategic capital partnership transactions within the insurance sector. Calidris is led by Daniel Miller and Philippe Trahan, two highly experienced insurance sector investors. Calidris is backed by two institutional investment firms with a strong track record in building financial services businesses.
Calidris expects to ramp up its operations and market presence over the coming months.
Calidris (Pronounced “Kah-LEE-Dris”) is the genus name for a family of birds commonly know as sandpipers. The sandpiper is a small yet remarkably resilient bird, known for its extraordinary migratory journeys that span thousands of miles, transversing both Canada and Bermuda, the home locations of the Founders. Despite its modest size, the sandpiper exemplifies endurance, precision, and tireless effort—qualities that resonate deeply with the Founders’ ethos.

Daniel has over 20 years of experience as an insurance corporate finance specialist within industry, sellside, and buyside roles. Most recently prior to founding Calidris, Daniel was a Managing Director at Blackstone within its Tactical Opportunities group in London, where he was focused on insurance partnership transactions.
Daniel is a CFA Charterholder; a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter; a Chartered Insurance Practitioner; and holds a MSc in Insurance & Risk Management from Bayes (formerly Cass) Business School, City, University of London.
Philippe Trahan

Prior to founding Calidris, Philippe was a managing director at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board where he built and managed its insurance-linked securities platform for 17 years. Philippe was an early adopter of the strategic capital partnership model and has led numerous groundbreaking transactions within this space.
Philippe is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
